Suspension Party, May 2003

Well, this was my second Lukas Zpira suspension party, but the first time I've ever personally seen someone actually suspended. The first time I went to one, I had to leave early and I missed all the cool stuff. This time, I stayed...and I had a great time! If you don't know who Lukas Zpira is, you really need to look into him. His work is phenomonal, and world renound. He has a studio in France but he tours the world all the time. I compiled a little movie from clips I took with my Digicam. It's a little dark...


When I first got there, I had already missed two people get suspended (dammit!) and they were just about to hoist up the third. I didn't catch his name but he looked pretty excited. The photos on the right are of his suspension. The girl that is in the last photo is his girlfriend I believe (I hope I didn't just get anyone in trouble ;). Anyway's, from what I gathered by the mood and the holes in her back, she was put up right before him. What a date huh?

This swinging character is Jo (xJOx). I've talked with him a few time out in the scene and saw him last time Lukas came around. His scarification that he got on his temples (also by Lukas) is posted here also. He had 4 hooks placed in his back and then did a little shake out before having the ropes attached to the hooks. When the hooks began to pull, he began to bleed, but it was nothing compared to later :). Lukas hoisted him up in the air, and he began to swing away. I seemed like he was having a fun time swinging around up there, well...as much fun as you can have with 4 hooks in your back. After he was taken down and the hooks taken out, Jo thought that it would be a good idea to have a couple beers. Needless to say this increased the blood flow on his back... a lot! It looked cool though, so I took a picture :).

This guy was helping out Lukas with all the suspensions and decided to string himself up my his knees. He did everything himself too. Prepped, pierced, tied up, and pulled himself up. The one thing that stuck out about this guy to me was that he wouldn't go up until his song was playing. He was very adamant about this too. His song was Nine Inch Nails...hell yes :). Once he pulled himself into the air, he was hanging upside down and then tied the rope around his neck and let go. He was up there for about a minute before the tearing began. Once he was on the ground, he looked more pissed off than hurt. I'm not surprised that he tore considering that he was hung up by his knees just a week earlier. He probably wasn't healed up all the way.

Lola, Lola, Lola... This girl never ceases to amaze me. Today, she was volunteering for a performance piece if you will. Lukas' girlfriend (sorry, don't have a name) tied her up Japanese rope bondage style, pierced her with two hooks in between her shoulder blades and then put it all together to hang her from the ceiling. And was this enough for Lola? No... she began to laugh and ask to be pushed and spun around! When it seemed like Lukas's gf ran out of rope, Lola asked to have her legs removed from the carabineer so that she could just hang there with all her weight on the two hooks. What a nut...but a nice nut :)
