Cult Tattoo Phenomena #2: Hello Kitty
Cult Tattoo Phenomena #2: Hello Kitty

A while ago, I wrote up little article about the crazy cupcake tattoo phenomena that has exploded in that past few years.

Well, recently I've been noticing more and more Hello Kitty and HK inspired tattoos. I know that this isn't anything new. It's more just that I wonder why people want to get this lovable little creature tattooed on themselves. I mean, it's a grade school girl's cartoon character. Maybe it's just part of the "Getting tattoos of things that I liked when I was a kid" scenario. I was never into Hello Kitty, and neither were my little sisters so I'm a bit lost on this one. To me, it's always been a Japanese school-girl thing. I don't even recall Hello Kitty that much growing up.

What's interesting is that the standard Hello Kitty logo is the one that I see the least. A vast majority of them have all been modified or spliced with another iconic character.

Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) Hello Kitty Tattoo:

Straight-Edge (sXe) Hello Kitty Tattoo:

Halo Kitty Tattoo (this one's pretty sweet):

Hello Kitty Jesus Tattoo:

For the Star Wars fans, we have the Hello Kitty Darth Vader tattoo and the Hello Kitty Storm Trooper tattoo:

To bring things more on the side of Hardcore Hello Kitty, Brian Decker (xPUREx) created this Hello Kitty implant:

My "pins-and-needles" image that brings this all together... the Hello Kitty Cupcake Tattoo!:

And lastly we have what could be considered the most ultimate / fanatical / lunacy hello kitty tattoo to top them all, the Hello Kitty Forehead Tattoo:

The owner's name is Garry and he is a musician / author / wrestler from Ohio. The tattoo artist that did it is Rev. Chad Wells. Garry (aka. Jacurutu3 / Scary Garry) also has a hello kitty branding on his hand. Judging from the other icon tattoos (notice PacMan on the neck), and the Muscle Men figures in his hair, I'm thinking he's a product of the 80's =)

And here's a gallery of a ton more Hello Kitty Tattoos!

Photos

And just for kicks, I thought I'd throw these bad boys in here as well. I mean, they are pretty cool!

So you've seen Darth Kitty (or Hello Kitty Darth Vader tattoo)...well, here's Darth Vader as Hello Kitty =)

i LOVE hello kitty and buy anything with her little face on it. But being an 80 yr old woman with a cartoon cat tattoo does not appeal to me. Yet.

I wouldn';t want anything tattooed on me from my childhood. I loved Airwolf and Batman, but that';d make for shit (imo) tattoos.

Also, that pastel coloured Darth Vader is commonly known as Darth Gayder.

Hello kitty, cupcakes, stars on most stupid places (ask the expert), the trend today is simply on studid tattoos. When ";regular"; tattoos become widely acceptable, the new generation has to do something more to shock. That';s why. And I guess that now that facial and stupid tattoos become step by step normal and that there will be no way for next generation kids to use bodymods to shock, then tattoos will just take the place that they should have forever had, that is something you do for yourself and not for the way people will look at you. They will certainly be a bit less trendy, but certainly a bit more sincere...

I have a HK tattoo, it';s little and behind my ear, she';s a little toughed out and I love it. I wasn';t super into it when I was a kid but my daughter absolutely LOVES it. The tattoo was pretty spur of the moment at one of our tattoo parties. My friend wants HK tattooed on the palm of his hand, he has an unhealthy fascination with it for having testicles. I think a lot of people are getting them because they';re cute and trendy (HK is making a huge comeback right now). I think the people getting creative with it are amazing. I still want the Hello Kitty Hitler tattooed somewhere spectacular. As far as getting things tattooed because I liked them when I was a kid, that';s pretty much most of my tattoos.

i believe that if you get a tattoo, it has to symbolise something.
this is why i wouldnt get something like this tattoo';d on me.
it grows out of ";fashion";.
pretty cute though i must admit! :)

I don';t know if some the pics have been reversed or what, but as far as i know, hello kitty always wears her bow on her left ear and going by some of those pics if they aren';t reversed, some people have incorrect details on their hello kitty tatts.i love the idea of gettin a hello kitty tattoo cos i love her but some of them i';ve seen aren';t very accurate, most of the ones featured are and look amazing but i';d always have the fear of it not being done right and not looking like her.each to their own i guess.good article;;)
