basically i need helps :|
i know this isnt really a forum topic, however im desperate because my coursework is due in tomorrow and i need help in analysing some speech so i gots 2 questions. 1. does anyone know what its called when the final letter or few letters is dropped when speaking? for example changing looking to lookin' ive called it deleting the final letter, but i dont think thats right. 2. does anyone know anything else i can write about at all? ive already covered voiced pauses, fillers, and false starts, basically any features of the spoken word apart from those 3. thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaankyou (: and sorry for cluttering up the forums Edited by isellmisery - February/12/2009 at 7:31pm |

I think slang is more of a "dialect" in certain groups. Pretty sure ebonics is a form of slang.

My English teacher always referred to it as being lazy lol...maybe more of a regional/geographical dialect? Differences in regional pronunciations " you say potato, I say potah-to"...Good luck. :)

Slang and colloquial speech are the same thing when work is bein assessed in english lit//language work.
(characteristic of or appropriate to ordinary or familiar conversation rather than formal speech or writing; informal)
They will mark "slang" as wrong. That's from my experience anyways :)
Dropping a letter at the end of a word...i cant think but ill remember
