They are unusual, I have seen only a few pictures of tattoos like this and I suspect that they were by the same artist.
I would go for it, at least your tattoo will be colourful and worthy of comment.

 Amanda Wachob does Amazing work, in person u really cant tell if its paint or a tattoo. i want her to do my sleeve so bad...but shes expencive(worth it) and booked like a year out

I love it. I really like to see original designs when it comes to tattoos but there aren't too many options for originality nowadays. An abstract tattoo would be (hopefully) completely different person to person. Different colors, design, and meaning. Do it.
