Is anyone else on here into rap / hip-hop?
Years ago, tattoos & piercings seemed to be confined to the rock/ metal scene, and as a hip-hop dj I seemed to be the only person at gigs with tattoos. The only piercings were big fake-ass diamond earrings! Now, nearly every hip-hop artist you see has 2 full sleeves! Largely the influence of the Mexican street gangs. For the uninitiated, hip-hop goes way deeper that the likes of Jay-Z & Kanye West rapping about money, watches & women, there is a whole sub-genre of intelligent, informed, very talented underground rappers rapping about real issues. My fave artists are: La Coka Nostra Ill Bill Jedi Mind Tricks Diabolic Immortal Technique RA Rugged Man Canibus Apathy Atmosphere Game Ghostface Method Man and many more. funny, had just looged into another site to do a write up on my fav aussie hip hop artists ha. aussie hip hop has always been a dirty secret love of mine, it's really coming into mainstream aussie music culture here though lately- don't know any of above mentioned names, will check em out! some aussie hip hop dudes/groups to check out if keen that are pretty big (or at least well known) here the herd (a fav of mine) bliss n esso (shit hot live- these guys really are the epitome of aussie bogan to me, they put on a mean show and are just a lot of fun!) urthboy 360 illy pez ellesquire (just a lot of fun more then anything) butterfingers is a guy who hasn't been as active these days, but had a few mainstream hits here a while ago and is a bit of fun, too. hip hop here is more about taking the piss a bit about society while throwing in some conscious hip hop style- to me it really is unique to aussie culture, we're a pretty laid back bunch usually and in my opinion our hip hop echos our sense of humour rapper tag is a good site to check out, and triple j is a youth radio station here in oz that has a hip hop show that features new and old from around the world that you can stream online Edited by xjessiex - December/18/2011 at 4:43am |

I love me some hip-hop! Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Cannibal Ox, Wu-Tang... these are just some of my favorites. <3

I love Sage/Astosphere/Rhymesayers stuff. Wu are part of my staple diet. I've heard of Cannibal Ox, but not heard anything by them... will check them out soon...
Also, will check some Aussie hip-hop. I like rap in different dialects/languages. French & Spanish lends itself to that kind of flow, even if I haven't got a clue what they're talking about! |

I am also a fan of instrumental hip-hop and consider these artists awesome
The Roots Jurassic 5 Little People Blue Sky Black Death Wax Tailor Nightmare on Wax (okay stuff) Cunninlynguists Blue Scholars (Seattle based ) and the list could probably go on.. |

Im all about Hip-Hop. Good list so far. But Lets not forget about the DJ. Ztrip is sick! Cut Chemist, RjD2, Shortkut, Q-bert. Love that shit!
