i have been thinking of getting my labret cut to half an inch but like oval shaped pieces more so than circle. i have been watching videos of cuttings and they all initially use circle pieces. i was wondering if you had to ease into oval pieces or if it were to be like stretched lobes where the labret could take any shape.

I would recommend if you get it cut, to use a circle until it's healed. :)

Pretty much. The tissue is rather flexible and shouldn't give too much resistance.

You could just as easily get it cut with an oval though.. I couldn't see any reason why that would bee an issue. If you get it cut with a round, then just wait until it's fully FULLLLLY healed, and transition to oval.. Transitioning to oval is an awful process too.. haha

It really just depends on how drastic of an oval it is. If you take your time putting in oval jewelry (and as long as your piercing is completely healed), you should be just fine!

I am currently in the process of transitioning to an oval. I am at 16mm (5/8"), and had a round polymer labret in. I had only been at 5/8" for about a few weeks. The oval went in with NO pain or difficulty.

The oval I put it was pretty drastic. I have been experiencing some swelling and soreness, but I have been taking anti-inflammatory meds and drinking lots of ice water. It's not unbearable, but it is an annoyance.

I haven't had my lip cut, so I can't speak for that, but once you do get something cut, it is usually pretty stretching. It shouldn't be AS difficult to switch to an oval, after healing the round.

I'd definitely start with a circular piece. If I could do mine again, I would have much rather started with a circular piece rather than an oval since I've developed a bit of scarring around the edges, which I assume is a product of the piece's shape.

Start circular and make sure you're fully healed up before you make the switch and you should be fine!
