I really want my septum pierced and was planning on doing it this weekend since I have 2 weeks off from work and I have time to let it heal a little before flipping it up. I have to hide my piercings for work.
Problem is that I can't afford it right now so I was wondering what time period people have had before being able to hide the piercing.
I don't know whether it would be best to wait until my next holiday from work.

Thanks in advance for any answers

I often pierce clients with retainers as starting jewelry, often because they need to hide it for work, parents and so on.

Either U- shaped retainers or straight ones.

Sometimes clients prefer a circular barbell that they can flip up themselves but that's rare. Usually they either want a retainer to hide it until it's healed or they want a big fat ring to show it off :)

In other words, you can hide it from day 1 :)

I got mine done with one of the U retainers (had to hide it in my old work) but a wee bullet type one would be good too (I prefered them down the line before I got a job where I can have it show (current ring has only been taken out once since I put it in for the first time in 2008 for surgery).

Flipping up and down would be a pest and I'm pretty sure (not a pro so can't say for certain) that it would irritate the hell out of it and increase healing times.

Where are you going to go to get it done?

I've always went to Forevermore in Glasgow. I might ask them if they pierce with retainers.

ohh never been there, where abouts is it? Only been pierced in Glasgow Piercing Studio and Nirvana that are still open. Liked the girl that used to be in the Argle Market. Saying that I got my septum pierced through in Bizarre Ink in Edinburgh and my only piercing work since getting my hood re-done in Nirvana (when sent their way for a fourchette consultation by GPS and was my back up if not suited piercing) a few years ago has been done by Angelfetus (who is a wee bit of a drive away)

It's on Hope Street, same artists as what used to be Land Ahoy underneath Hellfire in W. Nile Street.

Got mine pierced in a similar situation: 16g CBR, 10mm.

I just asked the piercer whether he could pierce it, and just flip the CBR up. Although he looked at me kinda funny, he did it and I kept it that way until it was healed and I could convince my parents that I can hide/show it whenever I want :)

So just go for it! :D

Oooh, never thought of trying that. I think I have enough ideas here that I shouldn't have to wait too long to get it pierced.

Thanks

you really don't need to heal with it down. you just need to pick a position and stick with it. It's more the act of flipping it up and down constantly that will make the healing more difficult.

My piercer told me that healing a septum flipped up was the best. I got mine pierced with a retainer and I have it flipped up. :)
Lalala. :)
