Does anyone here have their tongue split and experience tightness, pain or feel like you are having to strain to speak because of tightness? Most days I am aware of my tongue but some days it feels more tight and uncomfortable than others to the point where I have to pull it and message the end of my split to feel some relief. I had mine done about 3 months ago.

I wonder if I get my frenulum removed if it might help with some of the tightness or it could also be because I didn't pull it apart while and exercise both sides during the 5 days I had my sutures in.  (I hope it's fixable)

Either way I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same feeling status post tongue bifurcation or any other issues to speak of.

I have a little bump of scar tissue right on the tip that still occasionally becomes sensitive and painful and mine has been split 8 or 9 years.

I also have a lump of scar tissue but towards the back of my split caused by a really tight suture.  I  press it and message sometimes and have noticed it has decreased in size.  Have you ever tried breaking down the scar tissue that way? I'm not sure if the scar tissue is causing my issues but I plan for a re-cut next year and hope that fixes the problem.

I had my tongue split about 15 months ago and have had some slight numbness on the left tip of my tongue; it didn't bother me on a daily basis, but I did know it was there. After about six months it stopped being so noticeable, so I only realize it when I think about it. I can still feel pressure/heat/cold with it, but the very acute feeling I have with the right side of my tongue isn't there.

My sutures broke open because my tongue swelled so much (and my artist had even compensated for that by doing the stitches a tad loose) and each side of the split opened up into a V shape, so there was perhaps 2 or 3mm of horizontal 'damage' to each side.

With that said, I'm 95% happy with the result and love my tongue :-)

Sometimes when I wake up, the base of the split can feel tight or sore, I find that it calms down after an hour or so!

Has anyone had or heard of any actual serious issues with having their tongue split, either during the procedure, during healing, or ongoing after healing? I have been doing a lot of research and I see:

1. A lot of people who have done it and are extremely pleased with everything about it and have had no significant problems.

2. A lot of people who don't seem to have any real knowledge or experience, but who give advice to others about all sorts of hypothetical dire outcomes if they do it.

3. A very small number of people who report relatively minor issues such as on this thread.

There's a downside to everything, and I would like to find out what the actual risks are. Certainly anything is possible, but has anyone actually had to go to the ER because an artery was nicked and they were bleeding to death or gotten an infection? Or had their tongue paralyzed because a nerve was damaged? Or someone who voluntarily had the splitting reversed because they had regrets? (military doesn't count)

So far all I have found are reports of minor pain, minor numbness (seemingly only when sutures were used) and minor ongoing speech differences. There must be at least one real life horror story out there.

I would probably do it myself using a scalpel, but anything I would do is way off as I have just started thinking about this.

OK, I lied. I started a DIY scalpel split the day after I posted that. Here's the experience http://www.bodymod.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=22154&PID=397278#397278.
