So, i had my septum pierced two days ago and it's been fairly icky with bleeding and the usual with a new piercing.
I have a 1.6mm (sorry i don't know about gauges, 18?) horseshoe in it made from surgical steel (i think!). i'm having a problem with trying to clean it. the cotton bud fits in around the top of the piercing on both sides, but there is an area on the inside of the horseshoe that is very snug to the septum (the bottom of the piercing hole) where the cotton bud doesn't fit. in a week/ few days when it's less sore i'm sure i'll be able to flip it up/forwards for cleaning, but until then, is there any trick to making sure it's clean? i tried doing a salt soak today and my usual plate-on-the-floor method wasn't deep enough because my nose was in the way and i'm not sure how to get this clean. here's a picture in case it helps to see it at all: |

I would go back to your piercer and have them open the jewelry some more so its not so snug around the edges.
Plate? Try a bowl or a cup instead. Water pressure from your shower can help too. But I would prefer a larger diameter, when it heals you can always go smaller. |

You shouldn't change the jewelry until its healed. But if its uncomfortable or to small, you need to have changed so it doesn't interfere with your healing.
You can change it with a sterilized piece of jewelry. |

You don't have to have the horseshoe removed to widen it. :)

When I got mine done, I made sure that the jewelry was open far enough for me to flip it up inside my nostrils.
I'd try going back to your artist and having them open it further, that way you can access all parts to clean it and hide it, if need be. |
