My fiance and I want to get engagement/commitment tattoos on our chests...mine will end up being a fairly large chest piece, but his will be off to the left or right and considerably smaller because of his employer's tattoo policies. Anyways...

We're having a hard time coming up with creative ideas for it...We talked about a lock and key theme, but we don't necessarily want the traditional lock and key tattoo that thousands of other people have. I guess I'm just gonna spout off some ideas and see if anyone can come up with some ideas to help us out?

-I love the "splatter" backgrounds that I have seen on other tattoos, so that is a possible addition to these as sort of a backdrop to the rest of the design. (However, depending on how "busy" the end design is, this can be nixed to avoid creative overload)

-Lock and key like design...maybe something else like this that would symbolize us being together and committed? Or perhaps someone has a unique twist on the lock and key design that would make it stand out a bit more. This is what's really giving us troubles, lol...

-We thought about having our names incorporated into it, but neither one of us is a fan of having the names really stand out due to the stigma attached to name tattoos. Any ideas on how to possibly hide them in there?

I'm open to any ideas that you guys might have. We've been discussing a tattoo like this for a long time and we finally have the income to be able to get them, lol.

Also, I'm open to opinions, but please present them in a constructive, friendly manner. I understand that not everyone looks kindly upon engagement/relationship/commitment/whatever tattoos...

You should probably find an artist who's portfolio stands out to you and tell all this to them. They'll be able to tell you what ideas wouldn't work well and should be able to sketch something based on your ideas.

What are your names, by the way? Maybe you could do something interesting with an object that represents your name? Like if your name is Daisy, he could get a daisy on his chest.

I agree with CheapPerfume, I would check with your artist (s)he could come up with something interesting for you. Also like the symbol or object(s) that represent you and your mate. You could get each others representation on yourselves, or have the two symbols mated (blended) into one design and both get matching work.
