Looking to have someone draw up a tattoo concept I've had. Have something quite close to what I want drawn up already. All the tattoo artist I try to get to draw it around here seem to be crap. No work ethic at all. So, looking to find someone to draw it and advice for who to have complete the piece. I live in Lubbock, Tx so hopefully someone within a few hundred miles of here to do the piece, don't care who attempts drawing it as long as they take it seriously. Been trying to get this done for almost 2 years and this piece means something to me. Prefer to discuss the details of the actual concept privately if someone is actually interested in drawing it.

You realize that no self respecting artist will draw you anything without a deposit no matter how important it is to you. You didn't mention if you paid an artist or left a deposit yet so i'm just tossing this out there. Nobody works for free and that will also fix their work ethic.
If my shop drew every tattoo idea that came through the door we would never tattoo anyone because everyone would just be drawing all the time, leave a deposit to show you are serious. You are one of a few thousand people in your area that ask this of tattoo artists, think about that... |

I've actually paid nearly $750 in deposits. Different places require different deposits.. $25 here, $50 there, $100 somewhere else. I just leave the money when I see that they don't take it seriously. Never said I wanted it free. |

What style are you looking for? I know a bunch of good Texan artists.

No one will ever have the same vision that you have on your mind! If you want a custom made tattoo, you have to open your mind to new ideas, you have to understand that the artist can collaborate into making your idea better and stronger. If you are not ready for this, you are not ready for a custom tattoo.
I choosed my artist that way, i saw black, he saw neon green, i saw dark shades of purple he saw bright pink, i trusted him hands down because anyways, i wanted to wear his crazy art on my body. He respected and added so much to my idea, everything but a huge circle (that had to be perfect you know haha) in my piece was done free hands - no drawings to discuss about, just some funky sharpie randomness all over my chest and neck and still - ALL the elements i requested are there, and even more! I felt a connexion with this amazing guy, and i don't regret anything. He was right in everything i wasnt sure about. If you choose a kickass artist, if you trust him with an open mind and let him add his personnal touches to your idea, you cannot be less than pleased i think! |

Well, I understand no one will have the same exact vision.. but there is a pretty drastic difference between what I've had produced and what I request. The artists I've checked with that live near me don't seem to actually listen to what I'm requesting as the piece given (which in several cases they didn't even produce anything) is not at all what I asked for.
Not sure what you mean by style, sorry. |

style.... black and grey, traditional, new school, neo traditional,
realism, abstract, tribal, geometric, fineline, Japanese traditional,
Celtic, classic fantasy, anime, pointillism, portraiture, minimalist,
trash polka.. etc..... style of art you are looking for. Not all artist
will work in any given style.... I am sure this was discussed before you gave them money right?

Artists good at realism are rare, it is only now in the last couple years you have seen any strong showing in this style, so I find it highly unlikely you have that many artists around you that could pull a true realism piece off. Many artist actually decry realism as a damage to the industry of tattooing, because, as they claim, the tattoos will degrade faster than traditional tattoos. We don't know yet, but that is neither here nor there to this discussion, and I only mention it to show it's dubious and short lived foothold in tattooing
what does all this mean? you might have to look for a while Edited by MontanaPiercer - December/03/2012 at 11:18pm |
