Hi guys, I'm new here and whilst this is not my first ink my others were done 15 years ago.
I had a new foot tattoo done 2 weeks ago, it was fine, no major swelling, no pain. The next day it hurt like a b****. No lie. I could hardly walk. Anyway I went to the docs on Wednesday cause it was really tight every morning and burning and red around the middle of the ink and sore( my kids names with a heart in between ) and it has an infection. Not oozy or pussy, its scabbed and dry. Iv been on antibiotics now for 4 days. Its now soooooooo itchy. Its driving me bonkers. Is it normal to itch like this. I'm not scratching but hopping around like a lunatic trying not too. I am putting some stuff on twice a day I bought from the artist, any other ideas or is another trip to the docs in order. Any help greatly appreciated =-O

feet tattoo hurt quite a bit the following days after they are done. Not quite the tattoo but the foot itself hurts, I could barely walk. Scabbed and dry does not mean it is infected. If it is dry and scabbed, it is either your tattooer's fault who did not give good aftercare instructions, or yours for not following said instructions. What "stuff" are you putting on it? and yes, itch is normal, you should keep the tattoo well moisturized.

Ok, for the 1st week I washed it about 5 times a day with anti bac soap then I put on a salve called tattoo aftercare. After the first week Iwashed it twice daily and put the salve on 3 times a day, been wearing ballet pumps so always open never covered. Its only the heart in the middle which is really dry and scabbed but def infected, the rest is fine.

you seem to have done ok on the aftercare, don't forget to still moisturize once you have solved your problems. Anything mild unscented, and of quality is great.
ok, is the heart's ink red or pink?
If red, well red ink is the one that will more commonly cause adverse reactions to the skin due the pigments used in that color. That is of course just another possible guess, but it should make you consider if it is an allergy or an infection.

edit: forgot to mention, I am not a pro.

Scabbing does not equal infection. If ONLY the heart in the middle is scabby, it may have been overworked. If it was an infection, all of it would have gotten gross, not dry. The swelling is extremely normal, especially on feet. Did the doctor do cultures before they said it was infected, or look at it and say "yep, infection". Itching is normal, use unscented alcohol free lotion on it, and lightly slap it when it itches, don't scratch.
I have titties.

Seems like you are going through a pretty normal healing process for a foot tattoo then.
You should have shown the tattoo to the artist first, he would have cleared your doubts right away and you wouldn't have, likely, needed AB medication.
