I know we have talked about jobs that ask you to remove body mods...but student courses too? Thats fucking rediculous. My gf just started the nursing course and the instructors started laying down rules against mods. Really? You're paying them and they are able to tell you how to decorate your body.
Im a paramedic and my bodymods have never hindered patient care. Discuss in this thread the aforementioned horseshit. |

I could see some point if it was young students who have just left school and may need to experiece a dress code. For a professional person learning an additional skill it seems a needless powertrip for the lecturer.

I think that would just make me want to get more visible mods. I don't understand what that has, at all, to do with taking classes.

It seems some of the teachers are sticklers and others are secretly saying or acting "Learn who to hide them in front of, then wear them when I'm around." indirectly.

I believe because she is set to become a nurse, maybe visible piercings should be removed. Healthcare is a strict field with infection misconceptions.. It is just the way it is.

When I took my three month CNA course over 10 years ago now, I also had to remove my labret, tongue, and all but the bottom earlobe. They basically told me they would fail me if I didn't keep them out during class and clinicals. It really is ridiculous, but even more so now because most people are less judgmental than they were in 2003...

I feel if this were to take occasion in my country and I had invited myself in this education, the lesson although medical. I would delay my education for one maybe two years.
I mean to say, if they found out by investigation that I enjoyed nipple ring or dilation of penis then would they feel the same! |

You should be allowed to study whatever you wish looking how you wish, I understand if being in the field in a medical building to take the proper attire and dressings, but learning? The appearance of modifications should make no difference!

You have to do practical courses as well ofcourse. And although some people might abuse the following reason just because they don't like visible piercings; it's usually done for your own safety. 99,9% of the time you probably won't have this problem when you're a nurse on a "normal" part of a hospital. But i.e. on the ER, psychiatric ward, .... patients could cause you serious harm if you're wearing visible piercings. But in that 0,01% that you might come in contact with a patient that causes you harm because of the piercings, you'll be happy to have taken them out.
There are other, perhaps less significant, reasons as well but I think this will be one of the most important. But honestly, I wouldn't want to have a nurse with an eyebrow piercing (for example) that loses one of the balls when some part of my body is opened up or something ![]() So even though I do not agree with this on some jobs, I do understand it might be a necessity in others, like when you're a nurse for example. |
