Hi :D my name is Klaudija. I'm from Croatia, Europe. I Started with piercings when I was 16 years old but I was always fascinated with all that body mod. When I turn 17 I started to "fall in love" with heavy body mods. I want to do Body suspension. I searched for a long time for someone who do that in my country...and I find that person :D Now I want to know how to prepare for suspension? Do I have to do some physical preparations, or just mental ones? :)

I would recommend not drinking alchohol for the 24 hours before (at least not heavily). Eat healthily, drink lots of water. Myself and a few friends find that if we haven't eaten recently enough, we won't be as happy (you often experience a blood sugar drop when you go up, so this will be intensified if it's already low). On the other hand, some people fast (though I really wouldn't recommend this).

I will do that. :D and what is the worst that could happen during suspension? I dont have that much fears about that. I think that I will go well.. but Its good to know good and bad sides. The biggest problem in my head is thought that it will hurt like hell when they pull me up.

worst that can happen, hands down, is a splash, which is when the hooks rip your skin and you fall; but it's relatively uncommon for it to happen, even among the less experienced suspenders and suspendees
worst that commonly happens is you not enjoy it, which is ok, even steve haworth does not enjoy being suspended |

Other than not enjoying (or maybe a part of that), you may get lightheaded and pass out/black out. That's a good bit more common than ripping out. That's a good bit of why I recommend eating/staying hydrated. If you start feeling lightheaded or nauseous in the air, let someone know. Come down, but you don't have to necessarily be done. It may pass, and you could go back up!

Ripping out a Suspension hook is highly unusual, the few cases ever happened were either show related (going to the extreme bordres of bearable force) or due to completely improper piercings. If you avoid trying single hook chest suspensions, or mess around with shallow pierced knee suspensions that risk ist absolutely zero. I saw three people hanging from one hook in the back, and it still did not rip (even not a bit).
The real risk is that you either black out or that you dislike it / can not stand the pain. You do not really Need physical preparation, but enough sleep, little or no alcohol, little stress and some mental preparation (best: meditation) helps a lot. Also: Do good planning. What do you want? Easy suspensions are in general the ones involving the back. There is the smalest amounts of pain sensors... Easy piercing means small hooks - BUT that means way more pain during lifting up, and it may never ease completely. The more piercings (e.g, angel suspension instead of suicide, or opt for a superman) and the bigger the hooks (I like the 4g ones much more, then the 8g - but piercing is quire painful) the better the weight is spread, usually meaning, the skin is able to turn off the pain completely, then you just fly in the air. For me using more and bigger hooks works very well, I do not get on endogenous endorphines by that little stress, so the natural painkiller drugs are not here. (I had them after a bit crazy sports recently, so I really know now how these feels). Spreading the weight well still results in a nice calm medidative suspension with a perfect floating in air feeling. Here again... Those having really hard times to lift, than usually had endorphines and were painfree due to them... |
